This animation depicts an accident where a golf cart rolls over, seriously injuring the young boy driving it. The boy was steering the golf cart in circles in a vacant cul-de-sac when the tires on the left side lifted off the ground and the right front tire assembly failed, resulting in the cart rolling over. The child did not have a seat belt on, and the golf cart had been modified with an aftermarket lift kit plus larger wheels and tires. Our engineers completed the reconstruction of the accident using high-end photogrammetry techniques, inspection data from the subject golf cart plus an exemplar, and input from biomechanical analysis of the child’s motion during the event. Our team created a 3D mathematical model of the golf cart to fully analyze the motion using our high-end HVE simulation software. This animation illustrates the resulting reconstruction of the accident, comparing how the occupant dynamics differed with and without a seatbelt.
