This animation depicts an accident where a jogger is hit by a sedan as each crossed the intersection at a four-way stop. Both parties had clear view of each other prior to impact. The pedestrian suffered incapacitating injuries upon collision with the sedan. Our engineers were engaged to calculate the time/distance of the involved vehicle and pedestrian given reasonable approach speeds for both. Using scene inspection data, photography taken at the time of the event, and the use of pedestrian accident reconstruction software, the vehicle’s speed and location prior to the pedestrian entering the intersection was determined. Our investigation showed the vehicle was already moving and well within the intersection prior to the pedestrian crossing the road. Our determination of the area of impact was also different than originally reported at the scene.
